Different Americans have different needs so families, farmers, tradespeople and small business owners all demand unique vehicles. Each model takes 5-7 years to design and build—and requires organizing thousands of suppliers in all 50 states.

Automakers are committed to reasonable fuel economy standards. Tax policies encouraging alternative fuels like ethanol and hydrogen, along with public investment in research and development of battery technologies, can take us a long way toward that goal.
