About Us: Our Position

Our Vision: Diverse Autos + Diverse Fuels = Energy Security (pdf brochure)

Alliance members support enhancing energy security through alternative fuel automobiles that run on hybrid technology or fuels like clean diesel, ethanol, hydrogen and more.  Today, 12 million alternative fuel autos are already on the road, and Alliance members are offering more for sale this year.  Consider buying one.  Alternative fuel autos are the most effective way to reduce gallons of gasoline used.  As a country, we need to work together to ensure diverse energy supplies are available to run alternative fuel autos.

Progress:  Automakers are part of the solution

Automakers have invested billions of dollars developing diverse autos that run on alternative fuels like clean diesel, biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen, and compressed natural gas (CNG), or that run on hybrid technology.  There are already 12 million automobiles that are capable of running on alternative fuels on America’s roads today.  These vehicles are in every state.

Sales of alternative fuel autos have steadily increased.  Automakers sold almost 2 million alternative fuel autos in 2007, and hope to sell even more in 2008. Automakers are advertising these vehicles to encourage consumers to consider purchasing them.

Priorities:  Put more alternative fuel autos on our roads

Developing Autos and Fuels in Harmony:  Alternative fuel autos and the alternative fuel supplies needed to power them must be developed in harmony.  Automakers support an energy policy that helps ensure diverse energy supplies are available for alternative fuel automobiles on sale today and in the future.

Energy Industry Partnerships:  Automakers are working with the energy industry to develop a range of alternative fuels capable of sustaining mobility while ensuring more secure energy sources.  Many automakers have launched joint ventures or research and development projects with energy producers developing fuels such as ethanol, biomass and hydrogen.

Consumer Information:  Automakers continue to urge consumers to consider purchasing alternative fuel autos, and automakers are working with consumer groups and government in communicating that these autos are on sale today.

Consumer Incentives:  Congress passed the 2005 Energy Bill with consumer tax incentives to help increase the number of alternative fuel autos on our roadways.  Automakers support public- and private-sector incentives that can help accelerate the number of alternative fuels autos on our roads.
